The Diva Cup
Non-biodegradable pads and tampons are a burden on the environment, and on women's purses. But even more importantly, they are dangerous for your health.

So what other options are available to women that are affordable, chemical free and don't involve rewashing rags all day? For those of you who haven't heard of menstrual cups, prepare for your life to be changed.

Relatively new to Australia, there a couple of menstrual cups available on the market. Yet it is amazing how many Australian women still haven't ever heard of the revolutionary menstrual cup. The Diva Cup is one of those available in Australia, and, in my humble opinion, one of the best.

The Diva Cup is Allergen Free

The Diva Cup was launched in 2003, showing just what a recent innovation menstrual cups are. Unlike other menstrual cups, the Diva Cup is 100% silicone, and doesn't contain any latex, rubber, plastic or BPA. It is also free of dyes, colours and additives. This means it is much less likely to cause irritation.

I hadn't even realised I had a latex sensitivity until I started using a menstrual cup made of latex up until the point when it became unbearable. This just goes to show how important it is to choose a menstrual cup that is free of allergens, like the Diva Cup.

The Diva Cup only needs to be changed every 8-12 hours

The Diva Cup is so convenient! Speaking from someone who did the switch to a menstrual cup before travelling through remote areas for 6 months, I cannot speak highly enough of just how life changing they are. It has also saved me hundreds of dollars a year!

With the Diva Cup, you don't have to spend hundreds on pads, tampons and panty liners, there's no messy changing, and you don't have to stress about stocking up before a trip. In many of the places I travelled, tampons weren't even available to buy. I can't tell you how many times I counted my lucky stars that I had a menstrual cup with me. You can use the Diva Cup swimming or exercising or even doing extreme sports.

There's also no smell or waste with the Diva Cup. Simply pour it down the toilet, and wash it with hot water and soap. In most cases you only need to change it twice a day. The Diva Cup is also incredibly easy to insert and remove and very comfortable. Seriously, you won't even know you're wearing it!

What's the Cost?

You can buy the Diva Cup from the Australian distributor, Lightning Brands. The Diva Cup retails at $49.95 and can last a few years. You can also buy the DivaWash for $19.95 to wash your Diva Cup.

The Diva Cup comes in two sizes, size one for women under 30 who haven't had a baby, and size two for women over 30 or who have delivered vaginally or by c-section.

The Diva Cup also comes with a cute handy pouch and a little pin if you want everyone to know you've jumped on board the Diva Cup train.
